Concept

Miccosukee Magazine TV (MMTV) is a half-hour television program that is financed and produced by the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida -- through various production companies that have been engaged -- since approximately 1998.

For most of its life, MMTV has been a talk-show format, until OTTER VISION took the reins of this program in 2010, transforming into a series of mini-documentaries.  We expanded the scope so that the program tells both Miccosukee stories and South Florida stories -- thereby celebrating commonalities and respecting the differences that the Miccosukee community has with South Florida.  Our themes have always been to explore Culture, History, and the Environment.

Some new features we added include:
  • Miccosukee Facts -- brief 1-2 minute vignettes that illustrate unique aspects of Miccosukee life:  clan structure, language, political origins, philosophy, government, etc.;
  • Native News -- a series of news reports with a National scope, produced by Benno Schmidt and Houston Cypress;
  • Spoken Word -- performances by local poets featuring their original poetic works;
  • Indigenous Rhythms -- music videos by indigenous and First Nations performance artists from the United States and Canada
